What’s in a Name?

The name Annadale was bestowed around 1860, paying homage to Anna Seguine. Anna Seguine, a descendant of French Huguenots, belonged to the earliest settlers on the South Shore. This settlement played a crucial role in naming the neighborhood immediately to the southwest of Annadale as Huguenot. Additionally, the Seguine family’s influence extended to the nomenclature of Seguine Avenue, the primary north–south thoroughfare on the east side of Prince’s Bay, the subsequent neighborhood southwest of Huguenot.
